Lucerne Pellets are an excellent energy and fibre source for performance horses. They are suitable for underweight and growing horses as well as pregnant and lactating mares. Frequently Asked Questions
Does this product need to be soaked before feeding?
No – this is a compressed product that will break down and increase in volume as the horse chews it and after it enters the stomach. However it doesn’t swell and is preferable to feed unsoaked as this encourages more chewing and saliva production. If your horse has dentition issues then soaking would be beneficial.
This is a dense concentrated product. Will my horse eat it too quickly?
In our experience when feeding this product to our own horses we have found that they take just as long if not longer to eat the same weight of pellets as they do equivalent chaff. As our pellets are reasonably large and hard they encourage lots of chewing and salivation. Both of these things are very desirable for gut health and reducing the risk of gastric ulcers.
Feeding Recommendations
Feed 1 – 2kg daily as part of a balanced diet.
